New Delhi: The Hindi film industry praised the Film Federation of India when Newton was chosen as India's official entry in the foreign language category for the 90th Academy Awards. However, according to reports, it looks like Priyanka Chopra and her mother, Madhu Chopra aren't happy with this decision.

According to a dnaindia.com report, both mother and daughter were hoping that their award-winning film, Ventilator would be chosen. The movie had received a standing ovation at the New York Film Festival and was also among the 26 entries in the race to the Oscars.

The director of the film, Rajesh Mhapuskar told dnaindia.com that the entire team was eagerly waiting for the verdict and that Priyanka had even chalked an action plan for the pre-Oscar selection drive, to rally for the film in the US. The director also said that Priyanka's mother, Madhu was excited before the verdict and the director had told her not to worry and that the best film would make it.

Talking about Priyanka, Mhapuskar told DNA-

“I guess, Priyanka must be even more disappointed because she was always ambitious about the film. Had it been selected, she would have ensured that it was the most-talked-about film in the run to the Oscars, especially since she is already an established name there. Ventilator was always the favorite baby of their banner.”

Rajkummar Rao starrer Newton hit the theaters on September 22, 2017, and is a story of a young man who is sent on election duty. Despite the odds against him, he tries his best to conduct the elections in a free and fair manner.

China Opens Highway To Nepal Via Tibet, Ready For Military Use If Needed

China has been stepping efforts to improve road connectivity between Tibet and Nepal while speeding up plans to build a railway line connecting to Nepal's border after KP Sharma Oli, pro-China former Nepalese Prime Minister, signed a Transit Trade Treaty with Beijing last year during his tenure.

Beijing: China has opened a strategic highway in Tibet to the Nepal border which could be used for civilian and defence purposes, a move that Chinese experts say will enable Beijing to make forays into South Asia, according to a media report today.

The 40.4-kilometre highway in Tibet between Xigaze airport and Xigaze city centre officially opened to the public on Friday with a short section linking the national highway to the Nepal border.

The highway will shorten the journey from an hour to 30 minutes between the dual-use civil and military airport and Tibet's second-largest city.

State-run 'Global Times' quoted experts as saying that the highway "will enable China to forge a route into South Asia in both economic and defence terms" and being a forerunner to a railway line connecting Nepal.

Geographically, any extension of the road and railway connectivity to South Asia is through India, Bhutan and to Bangladesh.

Chinese officials have said in the past that the projects are feasible and could become a trade corridor for India and China if New Delhi comes on board.

The new road runs parallel with the Xigaze-Lhasa railway and links the city's ring roads with the 5,476-kilometre G318 highway from Shanghai to Zhangmu on the Nepal border, the report said.

As part of G318, the highway connects the border town of Zhangmu with Lhasa, the capital of Tibet. It can link with the future cross-border China-Nepal railway, said Zhao Gancheng, director of the Centre for Asia-Pacific Studies at the Shanghai Institute for International Studies.

The G318 with Xigaze in the middle connects to Nepal on one end and other end links to Nyingchi, the Tibetan town close to Arunachal Pradesh border. The highway runs very close to the border.

Mr Oli signed the treaty at the height of the Madhesi agitation and their blockade of Indian goods to provide a major opening for China to reduce Nepal's dependence on India, even as the transportation of essentials through the Himalayan terrain of Tibet would entail heavy costs for Nepal.

However, since the fall of Mr Oli's government, China's plans to speed up its efforts to make forays into Nepal through infrastructure expansion slowed down even though Kathmandu signed up for Beijing's Belt and Road Initiative in May this year.

The 25-meter-wide highway between Xigaze peace airport and Xigaze has four double lanes and is classified a first-tier highway, the Tibet Financial Daily reported.

"Highways in China are of a high standard including the one in Tibet. It can be used by armoured vehicles and as a runway for planes to take off when it has to serve a military purpose," Mr Zhao said.

"The road is Tibet's first real highway. It is our gift toward the upcoming 19th National Congress of the Communist Party of China," Wei Qianggao, deputy head of the Tibet transportation department was quoted as saying by the Global Times.

As an important infrastructure programme in the 13th Five-Year Plan and a core section of Tibet highway network, the road will benefit the export-oriented economy of Xigaze and the complex traffic around Lhasa, Mr Wei said.

Over five years, the standard of highways in Tibet and the traffic network have been gradually improved, state-run Xinhua news agency quoted Wang Jinhe, another official from the Tibet transportation department, the report said.

The total highway mileage in Tibet reached more than 80,000 kilometres in 2016, increasing nearly 19,000 kilometres since 2011, Wang said.

New Delhi: Actress Kangana Ranaut's explosive interviews to various news channels last week, has started a debate in Bollywood all over again. While promoting her forthcoming film Simran, Kangana said she would like an apology from actor Hrithik Roshan, whom she claims to have dated. Choreographer Farah Khan, who earlier picked old friend Hrithik's side, now said that for her 'feminism meant equality' and if a man would have made statements like this he would have faced the society's brunt, reports news agency PTI. Without taking names, Farah said, "I don't want to take anyone's name. I don't want to get caught in between. But every time you are playing a woman's card. For me feminism is equality. In such a scenario a man should put himself in a woman's shoes and vice versa and then it becomes easy to understand each other. One should deal with such matters carefully."

In an interview to India TV, Kangana also commented on her alleged relationship with Aditya Pancholi and Adhyayan Suman. Of the whole controversy, Aditya Pancholi reportedly said he would take 'legal action' against the actress while Adhyayan reacted and said that he's 'caught up with more important things in life.'

Farah further told PTI, "Just imagine if a man had said something like a woman, what would have happened. If a man had sent a picture or said anything like this, that man's life would have become hell or he might have been taken to the jail. If such things are not acceptable for a man, why it should be for woman?"

The Kangana-Hrithik feud dates back to January 2016, after the actor sent her a legal notice demanding an apology for appearing to refer to him as a 'silly ex' in an interview. Kangana responded with a legal notice. Hrithik further filed a police complaint claiming that an imposter had been corresponding with Kangana pretending to be him. In the interview, Kangana claimed that she still wants Hrithik to find the imposter and bring him in front of her. Kangana claimed Hrithik sent her various e-mails but is now denying. Hrithik has always denied their alleged romance. Kangana Ranaut and Hrithik Roshan co-starred in films Kites and Krrish 3.

Singer Sona Mohapatra has accused Kangana Ranaut of using the platforms to promote her film while Hrithik's ex-wife Sussanne posted a picture of herself with the actor and wrote, "There is no allegation or a sad evil plot that can have the weight to triumph over a good soul."

Did you know Aditya Pancholi once said he and Kangana Ranaut were as good as husband and wife?

Aditya Pancholi had opened up in an interview in 2008 about his break-up with Kangana Ranaut.

Kangana Ranaut's affair with Aditya Pancholi when she was still looking for her big break is an open secret. According to Kangana, the much-married Aditya was no Mr Perfect, and beat her up.

In recent interviews, Kangana revealed how Aditya, who was her "father's age", would keep her under house arrest and she had to jump out of her first floor window to escape him. Kangana had many more tales of abuse and even claimed that she approached Aditya's wife Zarina Wahab for help, and when she was refused, she had no option but to approach the police. The police reportedly gave Aditya a stern warning to keep his distance, and that was that.

Aditya responded by calling her a "mad girl" and said that he was considering taking legal action against her for "lying".

This is not the first time Aditya has spoken up about Kangana's allegations. Back in 2008, he had given an explosive interview to Mumbai Mirror about how she had supposedly taken him for a ride.

"We were as good as husband and wife. I was actually building a house for both of us on Yari Road. We lived together for three years at a friends' place," he said.

Reminiscing how they first met, Aditya said, "Kangana didn't have a penny when I met her. I saw her the first time on the road. She was on the verge of a nervous breakdown. It was June 27, 2004. She was drenched, and sitting on a bike with a guy from the Asha Chandra Acting Institute... It was pouring. Suddenly, she came up and said a warm 'hi' to me. When she said she was 'Kangana', I remembered a mutual friend had asked me to help her when she reached Mumbai. After that Kangana started calling me up persistently until I agreed to meet her. Initially she was a sweet small town girl. I fell in love with her."

Aditya claimed that he fell hard for Kangana and did everything he could to make it easy for her. But she supposedly took advantage of his trusting nature and took him for a ride.

"I was building a home for the two of us. Even the phone she was using was mine. Then one day she told me about this guy who was troubling her. When I asked for an itemised bill my world crashed on my head. The same guy's number recurred repeatedly in the bill. She spoke to this guy for 5,000 minutes in a month. Why was she calling a guy she claimed was troubling her? I should've been warned. But I was completely taken in by her. Things came to such a head that one of her mooh-bola brothers went to Dubai and got himself a job in a hotel on my recommendation without my knowledge. Yes, she has used me," he said.

Apparently, things went awry after Kangana returned from South Africa, where she was shooting for Suneel Darshan's Shakalaka Boom Boom. Aditya claimed that she got too close for comfort with another actor and even admitted to hitting her. "After she returned, I read her sent messages to another actor, while she was asleep. Her messages were certainly not innocent. And I remembered that the words she used for this actor were also used by her when she had called me from South Africa. That was the first time I hit her. We fought and made up," he said.

When Kangana's sister Rangoli became a victim of an acid attack, Aditya claimed to have gone out of his way to help her. "I bent backwards to get the guy nabbed. My wife warned me that I was dealing with an acid-throwing maniac who could harm our family. But, instead of being indebted she called me up one evening and began to abuse me and compared me with the guy who threw acid on her sister. I lost my cool and went to her house. I saw her trying to flee in an autorickshaw. I intercepted her and tried to talk with her but she ran away," the actor said.

According to Aditya, he spent money like water on Kangana, even after their break-up. "Some time back she called me to say she wanted money, about Rs 1 crore, to buy a house. (This, after she had complained against me to the police.) I called up a banker-friend and stood as her guarantor and got her a loan of Rs 50 lakh. Then, I gave her Rs 55 lakh cash from my pocket. Of this, she has returned Rs 25 lakh. She still owes me Rs 30 lakh," he said.

Not just for her house, Aditya reportedly also helped with other expenses. He said, "I've also spent Rs 10 lakh on her sister's plastic surgery, after the acid attack. But I'm not asking for that back. I paid all the bills. When Mukesh Bhatt asked back for her signing amount of Rs 50,000, I paid that for her too. I've written all that off. But I'd like to have the money that I lent her for her house."
